Daryl Karolat was born on 8 December 1966, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is a former professional wrestler turned actor, probably best known for his role as Michael Myers in the “Halloween” remake, along with its sequel “Halloween II”. He also portrayed Ajax in “Troy” and Sabretooth in “X-Men”.

Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings

Tyler grew up in Saskatoon and spent most of his youth there, during which time he became very interested in professional wrestling, though he didn’t see it as a career until after matriculating from high school. He attended Walter Murray Collegiate Institute, and shortly afterwards began his pursuit of wrestling, traveling to Calgary to look for schools to teach him. He began training with several well-known names from across the country, including Stu Hart, Red Bastien, and Mando Guerrero.

In 1986, he made his professional wrestling debut in Canada under the name Skywalker Nitron. The following year he wrestled in South Africa, and the opportunity there proved fruitful as it led him to be hired by the United Kingdom company, Joint Promotions. He wrestled with them for a year, and was then invited to tour for New Japan Pro Wrestling, in which he adopted the name Gully Gaspar. He worked in a trio alongside Barry and Billy, all three having pirate gimmicks and identified by wearing hockey masks. Around this time, he also began making guest appearances in World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

Retirement from Wrestling

While Mane didn’t have a lot of presence in WCW, he was known for being the bodyguard of Woman and Doom in 1989, appearing in Starrcade 1989. Following his work there, he returned to Japan to tour with All Japan Pro Wrestling, in which he was a part of the World’s Strongest Tag Determination League, an annual tag team tournament hosted by the promotion. He then moved to wrestle in Puerto Rico, before settling in Mexico where he had a contract with the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libra.

In 1993 he finally got his contract with WCW, taking up the name Big Sky and set in a tag team with Vinnie Vegas; Vegas would later move to World Wrestling Federation (WWF) under the name Diesel and leave him behind.

Due to this, he was lost in the shuffle and began wrestling in the independent scene again. One of his last promotions was in the Universal Wrestling Federation in which he won a championship. After the promotion dissolved, he decided to quit wrestling all together, as he could never really find the right opportunities to make him a star.

Acting Career

One of the reasons that motivated Tyler to leaving professional wrestling was acting, as he had his first opportunity while in Mexico, appearing as the villain of the local movie “Luchadores de las Estrellas”.

As he wasn’t getting any opportunities with WCW, he focused on auditions, and appeared in the show “Smokey and the Bandit”. Following his retirement, he became a lot more prominent when it came to acting work, first gaining attention for his portrayal of the Marvel Comics character Sabretooth in the film “X-Men” released in 2000, and featuring an ensemble cast, gaining positive reviews thanks to its accurate depiction of the beloved franchise.

Over the next few years, he worked on “How to Make a Monster”, “Joe Dirt”, Hercules”, and “The Scorpion King” in which he worked alongside then professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who portrayed the titular character.

The film is a spin-off from the “Mummy” film franchise, taking place before the events of the original film, giving background to the Scorpion King. He also appeared in the film “Troy”, portraying the character Ajax in an adaptation of the story of the Trojan War, based on the narration of Homer in his novel “Iliad”. It tells the story of the Greek army invading the city of Troy – the film was very successful, becoming one of the highest-grossing in 2004.

Mane continued his success in acting as he was cast as the killer Michael Myers in the “Halloween” remake, directed by Rob Zombie.

To prepare for the role, he watched all the previous “Halloween” films, taking note of the personality and actions of the character. With the role, he became the tallest man to portray Myers, later appearing in “Halloween 2”, becoming the only actor to play him in consecutive films, and in more than one film.

He eventually started his own production company in 2013, with the help of his wife Leslie Easterbrook – Mane Entertainment began making films, beginning with the supernatural horror/thriller “Compound Fracture”.

He then worked on the independent feature “Abnormal Attraction”, in which he was cast in a leading role alongside his wife and Malcolm McDowell. One of his latest projects is the comedy film “Playing with Fire” based on a story by writer Dan Ewen, in which he appears alongside former professional wrestler turned actor John Cena.

Personal Life

Tyler married Jean Goertz in 1988 and they stayed together for 15 years before divorcing for unknown reasons, at least publicly. A few years later, he met and began a relationship with actress Renae Geerlings, who is known for appearing with him in “Halloween II” and “Compound Fracture”. They married in 2007; they don’t have any children.
